Why the hell does my toothpaste tube have to come in in a box? Isn't the tube enough?

I would totally support a movement to sell toothpaste without a box as long as it's in a plastic tube. Metal tubes do need boxes to protect them. If the metal tubes get dinged up they leak. I love my toothpaste but I wish it came in a plastic tube.
Why don't you start a chain mail. Pick a US manufacturer of toothpaste and deluge them with "STOP the packaging" emails
