Ok, no joke, I just took these pictures from our front window. I look forward to many many more lightning storms watching this happen because apparently it happens all the time.
Actually, the lightning lingers for longer than you would expect. I took a few just by holding the button down halfway and then shooting when I saw the flash. Next I tried just holding the button down which just takes continuous shots. But the best ones were taken by setting the camera on its timer and then having it take 10 shots in a row. That way my finger wasn't shaking the camera while I pressed the button. It would have been more difficult if I didn't know where the lightning was going to strike but pretty much every bolt hit the tower and they were coming about once every 3 minutes.
