A Good Feeling

Every so often I will see just a snippet of a movie preview or a poster or an ad and will be immediately convinced that it will be good. Perhaps this can be put down to good advertising but I like to think that I have a good firstimpressionometer for movies. Usually my meter goes off on movies that are no brainers, things anyone would guess that I would like. What's more fun and exciting for me is when I get a feeling about a movie that, on the surface, looks like it might really suck or at least is not really aimed at my demographic. As far as I remember my vibe has not failed me. A few examples of movies that were much better than they looked and for which I had a vibe are Eight Below, Dreamer, and George of the Jungle. Today I can add another movie to that list.
Seeing a few tv ads and a movie poster or two I was totally convinced that The Golden Compass was going to be great. Carrie and I just returned from the theater and I was dead on balls right. What a god damn movie! I won't go into any details about it here except to say that if you find that my choices in movies are usually pretty sound then trust me on this one and go see it as soon as you can.

Six Months Behind

I think I might be about six months behind the cool curve here but I just finally got around to really watching some parkour videos on YouTube. Here's an example to get you started but I recommend that you go watch a bunch of them.

Badass Bible

Check out this list of the 9 most badass Bible verses. It is three pages long but take the time to read them. They really are hilarious all the way through. I especially liked Splinter Cell Moses which should have been higher than #9. This really makes me want to play more Splinter Cell (great game)... or maybe I'll just go collect some foreskins.

Which Dot Are You?

My sister Cathi sent this to me today. It makes me want to be a "'data driven' graphic artist." Seems cool.

Two Cool Games

These were posted on Boing Boing but there were some that were crappy and two that are great. Check 'em out.

Dice Wars (Simplified and quickened Risk)

Gravity Pods (seemingly lame at first but it gets cooler and cooler.)

What Album Is This?

I need your help!
Those of you who know me best know that I really like to have all of the metadata in my iTunes music filled in and filled in correctly. Usually I am able to figure out the data I need for everything. I've been stumped and I need your help. I have borrowed a Ray Charles album from my friend Adam and I can't find it anywhere! Adam has the album listed as "The Very Best Of Ray Charles" but there are about a dozen "The Very Best of Ray Charles" and none of them are this one. Here's the track listing from the album in question:
1. Busted
2. Cry Me A River
3. Crying Time
4. Eleanor Rigby
5. Georgia on my Mind
6. Hit The Road Jack
7. I Can't Stop Loving You
8. I Got A Woman
9. Imagine
10. Let It Be
11. Let The Good Times Roll
12. Let's Go Get Stoned
13. Old Man River
14. Somewhere Over The Rainbow
15. Summertime
16. Take These Chains From My Heart
17. Unchain My Heart
18. What a Wonderful World
19. What'd I Say
20. Yesterday
21. You Are My Sunshine
22. Your Cheating Heart

I don't have a lot of faith in this track order because the songs are here in alphabetical order. That seems like an unusual way to order the tracks on an album.
Please, see what you can do. I appreciate your help.

Temple of Doom

I want it known that despite the reputation that Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom is a bad movie, it isn't. In fact it is a kick-ass movie. I would bet that anyone claiming otherwise has not seen it in a long time. I'm not saying that it is better than Raiders of the Lost Ark or Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Don't get me wrong. But very few action/adventure movies would be considered "good" if they were all constantly compared to the first and third Indy movies. I just finished Temple of Doom and I'm telling you, watch it again for the first time. You will be surprised.
Two little mentioned things about the movie:
First, did any of you know that Dan Akroyd is in Temple of Doom? He plays the guy who talks to Indy as he gets onto the plane at the beginning.
Second, Temple of Doom is a prequel to Raiders of the Lost Ark. The events of Raiders take place in 1936. Temple of Doom takes place in 1935. That's great! I love that they did that but didn't make a big deal out of it.
